By accessing or using the Fantasy & Folklore Library (the 'Library'), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may revise these terms at any time, and your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Lawful Personal Use
The Library offers digital versions of literary works, editorial notes, and reading guides for personal, non-commercial enjoyment. You may download, read, and share brief excerpts for private study, criticism, or review. Any other use, including republication, redistribution, or commercial exploitation, requires prior written permission from the rights holders where applicable. This includes incorporating our content into other digital collections, using it for training data, or republishing it on other platforms without authorization.
Prohibited Misuse
You must not use the Library for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

Bibliographic and Transcription Limitations
We strive to provide accurate bibliographic information and faithful transcriptions, but errors may occur. The texts are drawn from public-domain sources and may contain historical language, outdated spellings, or editorial choices that reflect the original publication. Some works, such as Wigwam wonder tales or Ojibwa myths and tales, have been transcribed from older editions and may include inconsistencies. We do not guarantee that every transcription is error-free or complete. Users are encouraged to verify critical references against authoritative editions, especially for academic or scholarly work.
Copyright and Public-Domain Status
Most works in the Library are believed to be in the public domain in many countries. However, copyright laws vary by jurisdiction, and some works may still be protected in certain regions. For example, a title like Pele and Hiiaka: A Myth From Hawaii may have different statuses under U.S. copyright law versus European Union rules. It is your responsibility to determine the copyright status of a work in your location before using it beyond personal reading. The Library does not claim ownership of the original texts, but editorial notes, reading guides, and site design are our intellectual property. These materials, such as the 'Inside the Classic' or 'Reading Companion' entries, may not be reproduced without permission.
User Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your use of the Library and for compliance with all applicable laws. We do not monitor user activity but reserve the right to investigate suspected violations and take appropriate action. This includes cooperating with legal authorities if required.
Third-Party Links
The Library may contain links to external websites or resources, such as references to original source archives or related scholarly sites. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of those sites. Accessing third-party links is at your own risk, and we encourage you to review their terms and privacy policies.
Technical Availability
We aim to keep the Library accessible, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. The site may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen circumstances. We may modify or discontinue any feature without notice. In the event of planned downtime, we will try to provide advance notice through the site or social media, but this is not guaranteed.
Editorial Notes and Presentation
Editorial content, such as reading guides, thematic introductions, and commentary, reflects the views of our reviewers and is provided for educational and entertainment purposes. It does not constitute professional advice. For instance, notes on A mirror for witches or Legends and tales of the Harz Mountains are intended to enrich your reading experience, not to serve as scholarly criticism. We may update or remove editorial notes at our discretion.
Rights-Holder Notices
If you believe any content on the Library infringes your copyright or other rights, please contact us at editor@ukolu.com with detailed information, including a description of the work, the specific material you believe is infringing, and your contact information. We will respond promptly to valid notices and may remove or disable access to the material in question. We also respect trademark and privacy rights and will address such concerns similarly.
Warranty Disclaimer
The Library and its content are provided 'as is' without any warranties, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. No oral or written information from the Library shall create a warranty. This means that, for example, we cannot guarantee that a transcription of Seneca myths and folk tales exactly matches the original print edition or that the bibliographic data for Supplemental Nights to the Book of the Thousand and One Nights is complete.
Liability Limitation
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Fantasy & Folklore Library and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. This includes damages from errors in transcriptions, loss of data, or service interruptions. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of certain liabilities, our liability shall be limited to the minimum extent permitted.
Suspension of Abusive Access
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to any user who violates these terms, engages in abusive behavior, or disrupts the Library's operation. Suspension may occur without prior notice. Examples of abusive behavior include repeated copyright infringement, harassment of staff or other users, or attempts to circumvent security measures.
Service Changes
We may update, modify, or discontinue any aspect of the Library at any time. We will endeavor to provide notice of significant changes, such as removal of a category like 'Myths Legends' or a major redesign, but are not obligated to do so. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the Library regarding your use of the site.
